In short: IPv6 is the newer Internet Protocol addressing system. It provides a vastly larger address space than IPv4 and is designed to support the continued growth of internet-connected services.
IPv4 and IPv6 addresses
An IP address identifies an interface on a network. IPv4 addresses look like 192.0.2.10; IPv6 addresses are hexadecimal and look like 2001:db8::10. The two protocols are distinct, so networks commonly operate both at the same time.
What dual stack means
A dual-stack service has both IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity. A visitor uses whichever protocol is available and preferred on their network. Publishing both an A record for IPv4 and an AAAA record for IPv6 allows compatible clients to reach the service directly over either protocol.
What customers need to do
Shared and reseller hosting is designed to support both protocols. If Virgo Networks manages the DNS zone, the normal records may already be present. If you manage DNS elsewhere or operate a VPS or dedicated server, confirm that the service is listening on IPv6 and that the firewall permits the required traffic before publishing an AAAA record.
