How do I remove equipment from the datacentre? Print

  • 0

In short: Arrange and authorise equipment removal through a Datacentre ticket before disconnecting or collecting anything. Identify every asset and decide how data-bearing media will be handled.

Request removal

Provide the service and rack identifier, equipment make, model and serial number, who is authorised to collect it, preferred timing, and whether Virgo Networks remote hands will disconnect or package it.

Prepare systems and data

  • Back up any data that must be retained.
  • Shut down applications and operating systems safely.
  • Record network, power and cabling connections.
  • Decide whether disks remain in the chassis, are separately collected, or require an agreed destruction process.
  • Remove the equipment from monitoring and update asset records only after collection is confirmed.
Data-bearing equipment needs explicit handling: Do not assume disks will be erased or destroyed. Agree custody, transport and any destruction evidence in writing.

Authorised collection

The collector must follow the confirmed access instructions and bring required identification. Couriers should not be dispatched until packaging, collection window, address and labels have been agreed.

At disconnection

Verify the exact equipment by label and serial number. Trace and label customer cabling before removal, and do not disturb shared or other customer infrastructure. Record any unexpected condition before proceeding.

Close the change

Confirm the serial numbers collected, remaining rack contents, returned access items and final service state in the ticket. Billing or cancellation continues separately until the relevant service request is completed.
