In short: Unless your order states otherwise, colocation network ports operate at 1 Gbit/s, full duplex and support auto-negotiation.
Recommended setting
Leave the server or switch interface set to auto-negotiate. This allows both ends to agree speed and duplex correctly and is normally the safest configuration.
Legacy equipment
The port may negotiate a lower speed or half duplex where legacy equipment requires it. Avoid forcing only one side of the link, because a duplex mismatch can cause packet loss, errors and very poor performance even though the link appears up.
If the link is not working correctly
- Check the physical link light and use a known-good cable.
- Confirm the interface is enabled and set to auto-negotiate.
- Review the interface counters for CRC errors, drops or repeated link changes.
- Check that the configured VLAN and IP details match your service handover.
