How do invoices and failed payments work? Print

  • 0

In short: View invoices under Billing in the Client Area. Automatic charges use the applicable saved payment method; changing the default method may not change the method already assigned to an existing unpaid invoice.

View and pay an invoice

  1. Sign in to the Client Area and open Billing > My Invoices.
  2. Select the invoice and review its service, period, amount and due date.
  3. Choose an available payment method and complete payment.
  4. Wait for the invoice status and service status to update before paying again.

Manage saved payment methods

Open Billing > Payment Methods to review saved methods, update expiry details where supported, and select the default for future automatic attempts.

If a payment fails

  • Read the exact gateway message and check the billing details.
  • Confirm the card is valid and has sufficient funds.
  • Contact the card issuer if it declined the transaction without a useful reason.
  • Use a different available payment method if appropriate.
  • Do not repeatedly retry while a payment is pending.
Avoid duplicate payments: Check the invoice and transaction status after a timeout. If your bank shows a charge but the invoice remains unpaid, contact Billing with the invoice number and transaction reference.

Billing questions

Open a Billing ticket with the invoice number and a description of the discrepancy. Do not send full card numbers, CVV codes or online-banking credentials.

Further guidance

WHMCS explains how Client Area payment methods work in its Pay Methods documentation.

Paid elsewhere but still unpaid

A payment shown by your bank or provider may still be pending, unmatched or attached to a separate recurring agreement. Do not pay again while it is being checked. Follow I’ve paid, but my invoice or service has not updated for the reconciliation steps and the evidence Billing needs.

For a domain or suspended service, also verify the service status after the invoice becomes Paid; payment, renewal and reactivation are separate events.
