Can you help migrate my website or services? Print

In short: Yes—Virgo Networks can help move websites, databases, DNS and hosted email from another provider. Straightforward migrations are normally included, but scope and feasibility must be agreed before the move.

Before opening the migration ticket

Please collect:

  • The domains and services to move.
  • The current control panel or hosting platform.
  • Website technology and required PHP/database versions.
  • Approximate website, database and mailbox sizes.
  • Any scheduled tasks, redirects, DNS records or third-party email services.
  • Your preferred migration window and acceptable downtime.

How the migration works

  1. Open a technical-support ticket before changing nameservers or cancelling the old service.
  2. We will confirm the migration scope, access method, timing and any work that falls outside the included service.
  3. We copy and test the service on the Virgo Networks platform where possible.
  4. DNS or nameservers are changed during the agreed cutover.
  5. You verify the website, forms, email and other critical functions.
  6. Keep the old service active until the migration is confirmed and DNS caches have expired.
Please do not send passwords in an ordinary ticket reply. We will agree a secure way to provide temporary credentials if access is required.

What may need extra planning

Large mailboxes, proprietary site builders, heavily customised applications, incompatible runtimes, live databases, ecommerce sites and services without export access may require additional work or downtime. We will explain this before proceeding.

Plan overlap and rollback

Keep the old service accessible during an agreed validation window whenever practical. Record the old and new control-panel access, DNS values, mail routing, application versions and a tested rollback point before cutover.

  • Lower DNS TTLs early enough to take effect.
  • Copy and validate data before changing authoritative DNS.
  • Freeze or reconcile changing data such as orders and mail during the final move.
  • Test the new service using a controlled preview method.
  • Do not cancel the old service until the new website, email and scheduled tasks have been accepted and rollback is no longer required.
